Maintenance Report Introduction

In mid-1998, Eurobodalla Shire Council was awarded a NSW Stormwater Trust grant1 to treat three catchments near the Batemans Bay Industrial Area that discharge into SEP 14 Wetland No.212.

Proprietary stormwater filtration systems were to be used to treat these catchments. Council evaluated several manufacturers systems and chose a combination of systems from Ecosol
Pty Ltd, an Australian company that had spent three years designing engineered gross pollutant traps (GPTs).

The following products were selected to achieve the best results from each catchment by targeting specific pollutants and maximising capture efficiencies:

The installed units were monitored over an appoximate 18-month period commencing in December 1998 and the results are summarised on the following pages.

The NSW Stormwater Trust Grant initiative is part of the State Government’s ongoing commitment to improving enviromental sustainability by taking strong action against stormwater pollution.

Catchment 1. Ecosol
RSF 4000 Solid Pollutant Filter/Oil and Grease Arrester

Cranbrook Road

The RSF 4000 Solid Pollutant Filter is designed to capture and retain gross pollutants, free oils and grease as well as silt and sediment. Capture of these pollutants was considered by council to be a priority in this catchment.

Catchment 2. Ecosol
RSF 5000 Oil and Grease Arrester

Kylie Crescent

The RSF 5000 Oil and Grease Arrester was chosen because of the potential for oil spills in this catchment. The unit is specifically designed to collect oil and grease.

Catchment 3. Ecosol
RSF 100 At-Source Solid Pollutant Filters

Kylie Crescent

The RSF 100 litter baskets provided the best value-for-money solution for this catchment, which was not large enough to justify an end-of-line system as there were only six side entry pits requiring protection.
