Gas Works Creek Restoration
Lismore City Council is intent on achieving a quality of water flowing from the Urban Area of Lismore which meets the local community social and economic values as well as protecting and enhancing the ecological value of our Urban Waterways. Lismore City Council has undertaken a number of projects to improve the quality and quantity of stormwater runoff from the Lismore urban sub-catchments.
Recently Council engaged the services of Ecosol Pty Ltd to assist them with the restoration of Gas Works Creek. Gas Works Creek is a small degraded waterway which receives stormwater from Ballina Road and Girrards Hill. Poor water quality due road runoff and litter, and weed infestation detract from both aesthetics and habitat quality of the creek.
The aim was to provide a custom designed and built Stormwater Quality Improvement System that would improve the quality of water in the creek and could be easily maintained by Council. Working in close consultation with Council, Ecosol designed, installed and commissioned a modular trash rack basket system that effectively prevents significant volumes of gross litter from entering the creek. The design needed to be robust, child safe, efficient at capturing and retaining large volumes of gross litter at high flow velocities and also easily maintainable. The final installed stainless steel system proved efficient within only a few days of its installation.
The success of the project can be attributed to Councils innovative and pro-active approach towards stormwater management and Ecosol ability to provide a tailored solution to meet the council’s site-specific needs.
