Southkey Development, Johor Baru
In January 2014, Ecological Filtration Systems Sdn Bhd was awarded the contract for the design, manufacture, installation and monitoring of three Ecosol Gross Pollutant Traps (GPT’s) at the Southkey Development, Johor Baru.
Ecological Filtration Systems Sdn Bhd was the preferred supplier for the project as a result of the products safe, and cost efficient removable basket design. This design ensured regular maintenance would be more cost efficient for the client over the life of the product and this ultimately was the determining factor in their final decision. This system has also been successfully used in the SG Melaka, River of Life project with exceptional results.
Tight project deadlines required all three units to be installed concurrently and Ecological Filtration Systems Sdn Bhd with its efficient production procedures and diligent project co-ordination services set themselves the challenging task of installing all three units on the same day. Christopher Braggins from Ecological Filtration Systems Sdn Bhd commented;
“Our clients were working to a tight deadline and needed the project to be accelerated
so that they could complete the works on schedule, without any delays. Our prompt
manufacturing capabilities and efficient co-ordination of on-site works enabled us to
complete all installations on the same day ensuring our client’s timeframes were met”.
Commencing on site at 10.30am on the 5th of March 2014 (less than 8 weeks after the order had been received) the first Ecosol unit was lifted into position. The unique removable filtration basket was then immediately positioned within the pre-cast concrete unit. With the crane then re-positioned installation of the second unit was completed prior to lunch. The final unit an Ecosol GPT 4600 was subsequently installed with all works completed and the mobile crane demobilised before 4.00pm.
Ecosol’s unique product design incorporates a shallow depth below invert level and it is supplied to site with all elements factory manufactured and fitted thereby reducing on-site assembly times. Further, its turnkey service and dedicated management approach enable safe and simple placement of all pre-cast components reducing disruption to other site activities.
The screens themselves are angled to ensure the efficient flow of stormwater passes through the screens while also ensuring the effective capture and retention of pollutants behind the screens.
Several key industry representatives from local government and from the local private building sector attended the product installations and all were equally impressed at the quality of the product, the ease by which the installation was completed and the seamless co-ordination of the works. Two weeks on from installation of the Ecosol GPT’s the efficient performance of the commissioned systems is evident with the units performing to their designed specification thereby ensuring the vital waterways of the Johor region are protected from stormwater pollutants.
